PRESERVED STEAM

LOCOMOTIVES IN SPAIN

From its appearance 200 years ago, the steam locomotive has been one of the most exciting machines whatever have worked. Without a doubt, it remains in the unconscious mind of the humanity like the main symbol of the Industrial  Revolution. From 1848, several thousands of steam locomotives have crossed the Spanish railroads. Of very different gauges, constructors and types, they were one of the most interesting roster of the world.

Although RENFE officially extinguished its last locomotive in 1975 and industrial ones ended in the Eighties, the steam spirit even follows alive. More than 350 surviving units, several even in museums or in working order for historical trains, therefore they demonstrate it. The investigation and diffusion of this important historical heritage had to serve to conserve it as without a doubt it deserves.
